This is an AMAZING and TRUE story.

Ann Hopkinson was attempting to incubate three Hermans Tortoise eggs that had been laid in her greenhouse by one of her several Hermans Tortoises. Ann purchased a fairly expensive incubator which deals with humidity as well as temperature. Ann was a novice at this - but nevertheless on May 13th 2010 three small tortoises hatched (size of a 50p peice). A few weeks later - Ann went on holiday ... leaving the three small tortoises with her eldest son Charles.

When Ann returned from holiday - she found the family scrabbling to find the 3 small tortoises who had buried themselves in Charles' garden.

After a lot of searching - only two of the tortoises were found. The other was presumed eaten by seagulls or the like !
Charles was immediately branded the "Tortoise Murderer" and dis-inherited !

A year and a month later (July 2011), Ann's grandson (Cormac) found the small tortoise (still the size of a 50p piece) sitting in the sunshine on some grass clippings that he had been told to clear up.

Here is a picture of two of the tortoise sibblings from the SAME hatching. Notice the difference in size. (Picture - and this write up - are dated 16/12/2011 - copyright Charles Hopkinson !)
