We are recruiting for a Garden Centre Manager who will work alongside the Directors and a Garden Centre team of supervisors and assistants to deliver high standards of merchandising and customer satisfaction. You will lead and inspire your team and manage all operational aspects of the Garden centre as well as product selection and purchasing. You will have overall responsibility for the retail function as well as the people management.

We are looking for the following qualities in our chosen candidate.

  • Minimum of 3 years proven managerial experience in retail, ideally in the Garden Centre or Horticulture sectors or stores who offer a gardening range.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Ability to work with EPOS systems and digital stock control
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a forward-thinking ethos.
  • Ability to demonstrate a professional, enthusiastic and flexible approach.
  • Able to demonstrate leadership and promote excellent team work
  • Demonstrate strong people management skills.
  • Able to be responsive to challenges and demonstrate a ‘can do’ approach.
  • Able to work pragmatically with suppliers and adapt to changing retail conditions
  • Adept at analysing and maintaining financial margins.
  • Efficient organisational and prioritisation skills.

Key responsibilities:

  • Being at the forefront for purchasing decisions, and liaising with associates and buyers to maintain product ranges.
  • Oversee stock management across all departments including monitoring wastage and discounting to achieve maximum margin potential.
  • Manage the merchandising, pricing and display of all goods, maintaining standards.
  • Oversee the day to day upkeep of the Garden Centre and surrounding areas.
  • Manage staffing levels to ensure adequate cover at all times by co-ordinating an effective staff rota, identifying shortfalls.
  • Ensure all staff have been appropriately inducted and trained in line with their role and requirements.
  • Ensure clear and positive communication is delivered to all employees.
  • Liaise with the HR department to gain insight, information and coaching in people management. Working in line with policies set out in the Employee Handbook.

This is a Full-time, Permanent role

Indicative Salary: £29,000.00-£32,000.00 per year
